Weleda uses a raw grain alcohol made from naturally fermented, plant-based sugars to help preserve ingredients and keep formulas gluten-free. This alcohol is not drying; it helps hold and stabilize our botanical extracts. In our formulas, the alcohol is denatured by essential oils and gently heated, which further minimizes any drying effect in the finished product.
